A unique house on a rock that has defied the mighty Drina River for decades is definitely a must-have photo after visiting Serbia. You will enjoy the river valley with an interesting story about the construction of this house and the challenges it has survived. After a visit from a National Geographic photographer, the house has become world-famous, it's time to discover it!
Thanks to the mastery of the builders of the railway that connected Belgrade with Sarajevo a century ago, the most challenging section of the railway has been mastered - the Sargan eight "Šarganska Osmica". Today you have the opportunity to ride along this section, which is the only one open from the former narrow-gauge railway, enjoying the beauty of the Mokra Gora Nature Park. The ride lasts 2.5 hours with breaks at viewpoints and interesting places, with one longer break for coffee and refreshments. Embark on a ride through times gone by that served as inspiration for the filming of the "Life is a Miracle" movie by the famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica.
When we are with Kusturica, we end this tour with a visit to his wooden town - Mećavnik. Here you will have the opportunity to see the authentic architecture of the mountainous region of Western Serbia, skillfully combined with an artistic approach and amenities tailored to modern travelers. After touring the village, you will enjoy the gastronomic specialties and natural juices of Western Serbia.
ITINERARY:
Transfer from Belgrade to Drina river valley 8h-11:30h, photo stop at Drina river house. Transfer to Mokra Gora village 12:15h-13h. Sargan 8 train ride 13:30-16:00 with breaks. Visit to Mecavnik wooden town 16h-18h with lunch break. Transfer back to Belgrade 18-21h.
Please note that lunch time would be later at Mecavnik so it is recommended that you bring some snacks with you.
