Zagaji hills (SRB "Zagajička brda") - a fairytale landscape on the northeastern edge of the Deliblato Sands. The ball-shaped hills of attractive appearance are ancient sand dunes, partly forested and partly covered with steppe vegetation, a unique relic of the original landscape of the Pannonian lowlands before it was swallowed by arable land.

Located on a rock that slopes towards the Danube from the northeast side, Ram fortress built in a 12th century was completely reconstructed in 2019 and is a must see tourist destination today. This cultural monument has multiple meanings for the preservation of the historical thread and cultural identity of Serbian society.

ITINERARY:

 

Transfer from Belgrade to village Grebenac 8:30-10:00 which is our starting point for hiking. Easy hiking 5 km to scenic Zagaj hills, enjoying the nature and making photos on the way. The trail leads mainly through the open part of the sandstone, and partly through the forest of acacia, pine and oak. After about two hours of hike, we reach the top marked by a concrete obelisk. On the way back, a slightly different path that connects with the one on arrival. After a hike tour transfer to the banks of the Danube, lunch time at a fish restaurant. Crossing the ferry across the Danube to the Ram Fortress, exploring the fortress, enjoying the sunset (one of the most beautiful on the Danube). Transfer back to Belgrade in the evening at around 20:00.
